At Lidl, we pride ourselves on maintaining long lasting relationships with our suppliers. The way we operate allows us to work closely with individual suppliers over many years to continuously improve the quality of our products and how they produced. Animal welfare is very much part of this process and an issue we take extremely seriously.
We know the welfare of animals in our supply chain is important to our customers, too, and there is high expectation that we ensure all livestock are reared well and to high welfare standards.
Our UK suppliers involved in producing fresh meat, milk and butter products are independently audited to Red Tractor Standards. All activities that relate to the slaughter of animals are enforced by an independent onsite veterinarian and meat inspectors who are employed by the Food Standards Agency, as well as internal and external auditors to ensure the highest possible welfare standards are maintained.
Furthermore all fresh meat and poultry suppliers have agreed on the implementation of CCTV in all stunning and slaughter areas (and shackling in the case of poultry), which is available for independent review.
We want to go further so, in addition, we stock a of range products that have been independently audited to ensure they meet the strict animal welfare standards of the RSPCA Assured scheme. Look out for the RSPCA Assured logo on our products in store, or visit their website for more information.
